Stage 02 - research & facts finding

Semantic and Semiotics
Semantics
Semantics is the study of meaning, focusing on the relation between signifiers, for example, words, phrases, and symbols.
The word “semantics” denotes a range of many ideas, from the popular to the highly technical. It is often used in ordinary language to denote a problem of understanding that comes down to word selection or connotation. This problem of understanding has been the subject of many formal inquiries, over a long period of time, most notably in the field of formal semantics. In linguistics, it is the study of interpretation of signs or symbols as used by agents or communities within particular circumstances and contexts. Within this view, sounds, facial expressions, body language, and proxemics have semantic (meaningful) content, and each has several branches of study. In written language, such things as paragraph structure and punctuation have semantic content; in other forms of language, there is other semantic content.

Semiotics
Semiotics, is the study of signs and sign processes (semiosis), indication, designation, likeness, analogy, metaphor, symbolism, signification, and communication. Semiotics is closely related to the field of linguistics, which, for its part, studies the structure and meaning of language more specifically. Semiotics is often divided into three branches:

  • Semantics: Relation between signs and the things to which they refer; their denotata, or meaning
  • Syntactics: Relations among signs in formal structures
  • Pragmatics: Relation between signs and the effects they have on the people who use them

So anway, based on my 2 chosen ideas:

Idea # 1 - Emotion: Happy
                Expression: Love

Description:
2 Warm colours string (thin) and thick string are entangled to each other, representing love of two sexes, athough they may have been in rough times but they still unite with each other.

Research:
"omnia vincit amor", Latin phrase from Eclogue X by Virgil. It means love conquers all.

Also, according to my research on love, love realy does conquer all just like there's this one man's determination to prove doctors wrong when girlfriend was declared dead after being hit by 18-wheel truck. This happens in the UK.

Idea # 2 - Emotion: Nervous
                Expression: Unstable

Description:
There's nails attached to the shoe. The nails becomes the high heel of theshoe. The whole symbolizes women having emotional flaws as they are no perfect.

Research:
According to Sarah, "Every attempt I had made to wear heels I felt off balanced; unstable; and constricted in my movement. I loved the idea of heels but came to the conclusion they were not for me. Since then, I have spoken with many other women who have said the same thing. It wasn’t until about a year ago..maybe even less…that I came to a realization.
Heels did not feel good because they showed me all my flaws."
