Assignment 3g - 2 Final Artworks

Name: Jason Wong Zhin-Ming
ID: 1102701493
Artwork title: Beggars at the temple

Artist statement:
I did this artwork based on results of my survey that I did. In Penang, there are views that normally beggars would be at the temple. I made the temple look a bit worn out because in Penang the buildings are old. and kind of rotten. The figurines are the beggars. They are old people. I made them looked sad because my most of both the 2 pesonas viewed beggars in Penang sad (pity). I chose dark colors for the artwork to enchance the feeling of sadness on the beggars.

Artwork treatment:
Plasticine (modelling clay), art papers (colored), foam board, wooden sticks. glue, tape, rope.

Artwork title: Beggars near the shops

Artist statement:
I did this artwork based on results of my survey that I did. In Penang, there is another view from another pesona that normally beggars would be near the shops. This is a real photograph that I took with my mobile phone. I took this picture because I kind of feel like its a cultural thing in Penang for a beggar to sleep anywhere in the streets of Georgetown, most are elderly aged people. The person that sits looking towards the old man seem like he doesn't care which is sad..

Artwork treatment:
Photograph (digital), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop.

Assignment 3f - Sketches

Based on the 2 pesonas, I did sketches for my 2 final artwork.

Assignment 3e - 2 Pesonas

So based on my survey, I've got 2 peosanas. Pesona 1 has a view that beggars in Penang are normally found in the temples while pesona 2 gave opposite views where the beggars are normally can be seen near the shops.

Pesona 1:
Where do you normally see beggars in Penang?
Answer: Temple

Pesona 2:
Where do you normally see beggars in Penang?
Answer: Near the shops

Assignment 3d - Survey

Based on my mind map I chose the topic 'people' in Penang. It more focused on the people there that seem to be beggars, well, I don't really know if they are really beggars but when I was there, there seems to be lots of beggars in temples like the Kuan Yin Temple in Georgetown. I not sure others would say about beggars in Penang so I did a survey on them. My target audience is actually those young age, 18-25 years olds. Here's how my survey looked like:
I did surveys on six people and here's the result that I got:

Assignment 3c - Mind map

Here is my mind map (above) on Penang.

Assignment 3b - Scouting for ideas in visual arts(penang trip)

There was this one week where me and some of my classsmates went on a Penang class trip. There, I  noticed there are lots of rotten old building that have survived for many years, mostly in the city of Georgetown, the capital of Penang. I noticed also went going to through streets of Penang, I find that there are more elderly people, besides tourists on the streets than those of younger local generation. Over there we also visited historical sites like Cheong Fatt Tze's Mansion, Peranakan House, Khoo Kongsi, temples especially the Suffolk House where we were there to witness the visual audio performance on the historical house itself. It was amazing! Here are some shots of pictures that I took from Penang.
